Let’s just go ahead and say it – rain on your wedding day? Ends up iconic – because the weather is one thing you cannot change. And when your venue is the Providence Public Library, and your ceremony is in an actual cathedral – it’s really NOT an issue. Given their April wedding, Adrienne + Patrick knew that rain was a real possility, so they planned accordingly.
Adrienne started the day getting ready at her family’s home in Lincoln, Rhode Island, with her sweet pup Tula keeping close watch over everything (and stealing food more than once). The rain fell steadily outside, but inside it was cozy and calm, with Adrienne, her mom, and her sister Jenna sharing sweet moments as she stepped into her Justin Alexander gown. Tula even posed for a few portraits because, obviously, she’s a star.
Meanwhile, Patrick was getting ready just across town at the Omni Providence Hotel, cool calm and collected + ready to marry his best friend. Then it was off to the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul for the ceremony. This space is massive and cinematic in the best way, and Adrienne’s entrance was something out of a movie. Her uncle Mark is a priest – so he officiated, adding a personal and heartfelt layer to the whole experience.
After the ceremony, the library came into play. Rain or shine, the Providence Public Library is a dream venue. And on this April day, it felt straight-up magical. The soft, moody light filtered in through tall windows, and the marble halls and rooms made the perfect cozy hideaways. The cocktail hour featured live piano by Benny Goodman, giving everything that romantic, old-world ambiance. And the guest book? A custom-frame with a vintage postcard of the library in the center. My husband has a custom framing business, so I was genuinely obsessed with this detail.
Adrienne and Patrick embraced the rain like total champs. We ducked between covered and inside spots for portraits (shoutout to the stunning staircase), and then they joined their guests in the courtyard for their first dance. The mood? Warm + fully alive.
Dinner by Morins was next-level (as usual honestly), heartfelt toasts were delivered with just the right amount of roasting and love, and the espresso martini station + DJ Benny G kept everyone on the dance floor well into the night. Adrienne later changed into a second dress that screamed ready to party, and party everyone did.
What made this day so special was Adrienne and Patrick’s energy. Their joy was contagious, their people were incredible, and the rain just added to the romance of it all. As a documentary wedding photographer, I live for days like this – unscripted, heartfelt, and full of real moments that tell the truest version of a love story.
