MY STORY + WHY I DO THIS
I never thought I’d be a wedding photographer, but to one degree or another, I’ve lived and breathed photography as a means of knowing and experiencing my life since I got my first camera. I was ten, and the camera was a Polaroid One-Step - a total cliche, I know.
I grew up in New York City, and when I got to high school, I found my place in the darkroom - developing and printing the photos I took. Regardless of what I was photographing - the streets around me, the lives of my friends and family - the camera allowed me to see and be present in the world, and to communicate my experience without having to find the words to describe it.
Professionally, I got my undergrad degree in sociology, then earned a masters from the New School, where I honed my skills in visual storytelling and documentary photography. And I learned lighting and the technical side of things through years of photo assisting for big-name editorial and advertising photographers in NYC.
In addition to being a full-time photographer, I’m the mom of two awesome kids, the spouse of a sculptor, a former NYC bike messenger (!), a coffee addict, a craftster, a list maker, and many other things. And I have never met a dog that I didn’t like.
Movies, art, human connection, growth, seeing the magic in everything around me, film photography, organizing things, dogs, traveling, humility, coffee, Bruce Lee, music, Legos, pizza, tacos, mayonnaise...
My family. I feel so lucky to have this life with them. My husband is my true love. And my stepson and son are the best humans - kind and smart and creative - they give me hope for the future.
Photography. This one probably seems obvious, but I mean that photography is why I was put here. It's my calling. I'm more than a decade in, and I still cannot believe I get to do this for a living.
