If I could bottle up the vibe of Kyla and Alonso’s wedding day and wear it like perfume, I would. It would smell like crisp November air and heirloom roses. From a quiet morning getting ready at Little Gold in Newport to a golden-hour first look at Glen Manor House, this day was a total heart-melter — and a dream come true for a documentary wedding photographer like me.
Let’s talk getting ready, because Little Gold was chef’s kiss — chic, cozy, and full of warm light. Kyla got ready surrounded by her VIPs, a crew of wonderful humans who were fully present, helping her laugh through the final touches of hair and makeup. One of my favorite personal touches: her mom’s wedding veil wrapped around the bouquet — cue all the feels. I made sure to tuck that little detail into the flat lay because these are the kinds of things that deserve a close-up.
Meanwhile, Alonso was over at the Wyndham Newport, cool as a cucumber (okay, maybe more like a cucumber with nerves in a tux). Erin, my second shooter, captured candids and details while the guys helped him get wedding-ready — tying ties, teasing each other, and pretending they weren’t a little misty-eyed about the day ahead. Naval officers from the southern United States are big softies in the best way possible.
Then we all made our way to Glen Manor House. And let me tell you, Glen Manor in late November? Absolutely stunning. Think: European manor elegance meets New England charm with a side of fallen leaves and romantic fall florals. First look on the loggia = the stuff love songs are written about.
After the first look and a few quiet moments just the two of them (with me tagging along like a stealthy, camera-wielding ninja), we moseyed through couples portraits, wedding party antics, and family hugs. Their people were incredible — patient, joyful, and so ready to celebrate. And Kyla’s first look with her dad, Sammy? Heart. String. Tugged.
The ceremony took place indoors, framed by lush florals from Lucille’s Floral Designs and the warmth of gathered loved ones. It was sweet, simple, and packed with intention — the kind of ceremony where you feel the vows deep in your chest.
Then came the party. And when I say party, I mean: THE party. Unique Sounds Entertainment brought the energy, and Kyla + Alonso’s crew delivered — big time. From epic dance floor moves to heartfelt toasts and emotional embraces, the reception was a rollercoaster of joyful moments. Glen Manor’s interior created the dreamiest backdrop, and Morins served up a dinner that I am literally still dreaming about. (Thanks for the truffle-glazed filet, Liz!)
Kyla and Alonso’s wedding was the kind of day that reminded me exactly why I do what I do — not just to take pretty pictures, but to preserve the fleeting, magical, wildly human moments that make each wedding unique. And with two stunning venues and a crew of vendors who really nailed it, the whole thing felt effortless.
To Kyla + Alonso: thank you for inviting me into your story. Your day was a perfect blend of heartfelt, hilarious, and wildly beautiful. Wishing you a lifetime of laughter, dance parties, and quiet moments in hidden gardens.
