There are some weddings that just make sense—and Casey and Dušan’s Newport Art Museum wedding was one of them.
These two met in NYC (where they still live), but Casey grew up in Rhode Island and now works for The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dušan is from Montenegro, where they had already celebrated their first wedding earlier in the year. So when it came time to plan their Newport celebration, hosting it at the Newport Art Museum felt like the most natural, meaningful choice. Art, architecture, history, and the people they love most—all wrapped into one beautifully relaxed summer day.
Because this was technically wedding number two, the energy was calm, confident, and very much we’ve got this. No stress, no rushing—just presence, joy, and a whole lot of laughter.
The day began at Serenity Inn in Newport, where they got ready surrounded by friends, soft morning light, and a sense of quiet excitement. Her dress? Vintage Vera Wang, worn in the most effortlessly cool way possible. She chose it for the floral details. Paired with an ethereal Danielle Frankel veil that felt impossibly light and airy, the whole look was equal parts timeless and unfussy.
Once Casey arrived at the Newport Art Museum, things flowed easily from there. A private first look tucked into the museum grounds gave them space to connect before the festivities began. We wandered through the museum for portraits and moments that unfolded naturally. This is where documentary wedding photography really shines: letting things happen and honoring them as they are.
One of my favorite details? The museum had hosted its annual gala the night before, complete with a black-and-white checkered dance floor and lush florals. Casey and Dušan took one look and said, “Let’s keep it.” And honestly—yes. It set the tone for a celebration that felt elevated but playful, intentional but never precious.
The ceremony in the Cushing Gallery was heartfelt and intimate, followed by cocktails inside the galleries with live music. Dinner in the Ilgenfritz Gallery (aka the Whale Gallery) brought thoughtful toasts, warm light, and plenty of laughter. And when the band kicked off? The dance floor stayed full. The Ben & Jerry’s ice cream bar didn’t hurt either.
One standout guest was Casey’s niece, Nylah, who spent much of the evening dancing joyfully and drawing portraits of guests. Truly the energy we all aspire to bring to a wedding.
From start to finish, this Newport Art Museum wedding was artful, relaxed, and deeply human—exactly the kind of day I love documenting as a New England wedding photographer focused on real connection.
